ARTIST STATEMENT
In a world full of mass production, I find myself drawn to the beauty of antique objects, worn textures, crumbling walls, windows, and doors, and the colors that bleed through while being distressed by nature or age. This is an ongoing theme in all my paintings, building up layers of paint and textures then washing and scrubbing them away at the surface. There is a beauty in the patina of decaying and aging objects that tells a story of a life lived without fully telling it. One of my favorite parts of sharing this work is hearing the stories that you bring to it. It’s always so entertaining, and honestly really special, to hear the different interpretations people come up with.
BIO
Bonnie Larden is a professional artist based in Ballina, New South Wales. Originally from South Texas in the United States, she grew up on a cattle ranch, where her deep connection to animals first began.
Bonnie initially pursued a career in veterinary science, earning a degree in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University. However, when she moved to Australia in 2017, she followed her creative calling and transitioned into a full-time art career. Through her work, Bonnie has developed a distinctive artistic style bringing together her lifelong love of animals with her passion for creativity and interior design.
She has exhibited in galleries throughout the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. Her work is also represented by Australian online galleries and collected internationally, with pieces reaching homes across Europe, Asia, and the United States.
Bonnie was named a finalist in the Lethbridge 20,000 Small Scale Art Award and the Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize. More recently, she has been honoured with the People’s Choice Award at the Coraki Art Prize in both 2024 and 2025, as well as the People’s Choice Award at the Plateau Art Prize in 2025.
